Unifinished Story. Unfinished Art.

About three years ago I was watching a very famous anime called Death Note. I loved it so much I also saw that there were live action movies on it called Death Note and Death Note: The Last Name. It also had a third spin off movie called L: Change the WorLd.
Anyway, after watching them it filled me full of inspiration to write something new. While I did start writing a story about a young boy who kills people for justice and a cop who want's to catch him, it didn't get very far as I couldn't really think of much and it was obviously too similar to Death Note.
I drew a couple pieces of concept art for the characters though. A few of the drawing I really don't like and won't show but I have two that I did feel slightly proud of. Here they are.

This was to be the young boy who was tryign to hand out justice to  the 'evil'.  It looks as though I started to add some colour to it but just never got round to finishing it. It has some kind of artistic feel to the three red stripes though which I like quite a lot.
The only other picture I liked that I drew for this story. (I realize that the boy's face isn't exactly halfed and he is facing a different angle.) The man with cyan hair was to be the cop who would be in charge of the case. I took inspiration from Resident Evil's Leon. S. Kennedy as you can maybe tell by the jacket.

The Game of Emotion

About three days ago I completed a computer game I got. It was a very, very sad story with plot twist's you could never see coming, characters you grew to love and care about and just hoping that whatever you did all the group would make it to the end. I'm talking, of course, about The Walking Dead.
Apart from the Shadow Moses return in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, The Walking Dead is the only other game to actually make me cry and feel something towards these characters. Differing from other zombie games this one was mainly story driven and Telltale Games, the creators, actually set out with a sole purpose to make you upset.

Three days later and I'm still thinking about the survivours and their heroic deeds. Kenny's sacrifice, Carley's untimely shock death, which I actually spent a couple days upset over her, Ben in the belltower and of course Lee's determination to get Clementine back from the Stranger. Even finding chuck in the sewer made me sad knowing he also gave his life for the group when he barely even knew them a day. The main thing I found so remarkable about these characters is that each one of them has a personality, a backstory and determination to get to a goal. It's strange that even though you play as a murderer, you still want him to make it. It would have been much different that if Lee killed the guy after the outbreak but no, it was weeks before. His truly good side shows when he is tasked with looking after little eight year old Clementine after she rescues you from a walker.

From that point on after she saved Lee's life, I felt as if I had to keep this girl safe. Even though the story obviously made you do that anyway, I always tried to keep her happy. In episode three, Long Road Ahead, we lose many of our beloved characters. Carley/Doug, Lilly, Katja. But the most shocking one of all of them was Kenny Jr (Duck). In not one single video game have I ever seen a child die let alone giving me the choice to pull the trigger so his father doesn't have to kill his only son after he was bitten. From this point on I tried to keep Clementine as safe as I could knowing that if they could kill Duck like that then there is nothing to say that Clementine would survive.

I am writing this because I just want to say that this game is a work of art. Thank you Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, Tony Moore and everybody at Telltale who worked on this game. You have truly created what you set out to do.. An amazingly written story driven by sheer will to survive in a world that no longer cares for the living. This is exactly the kind of writing that I hope to one day produce. This is what I live for, this is my inspiration. Season two, I await you with great hope.

To all of those who were lost in Lee's group, rest in peace.

The Japanese Play

"To go with the topic of dreams my previous posts have been about, I figured I would share one with you which I had almost two years ago. It's not my best work at writing as I quickly tried to get it all down as soon as I had woken up from it. Honestly speaking, this dream scared the hell out of me. Even though the way they die is something so stupid it is on par with comical, everything leading up to it was weird, mysterious and just psychologically frightening."

THE JAPANESE PLAY

I was in a celebration, like a small play but I was just watching from the back. It must have been a rehearsal of some sort because it seemed like I was the only one there. The lead in the play was a beautiful Japanese woman dressed in a gorgeous geisha dress which was red and had shiny silver sequins in amazing patterns. Her face had white make up all over, rose red lipstick and black eyeliner. Her hair was long and black and done up in the tradition Japanese Kabuki style. She was beautiful.
She sat in a seat against the back wall of the stage under different colored spotlights. the other actors came out who were dressed as Japanese soldiers outfits. They only stood out on the stage for about five seconds before leaving out a doorway covered in strips of clear plastic sheeting. I walked over to the small roomed stage and looked at the woman in the chair. I smiled at her as if to say 'good luck with all my heart.' She smiled back as if to say 'I love you.' From here I could tell that we were in love.
As I walked towards the door about five or six people pushed past me who looked like they were drunk or just really hyperactive. They went to the stage and started dancing under the spotlights. After a few seconds a rising, painful, high-pitch note came out of nowhere and the people suddenly exploded into small amounts of glitter one by one. The girl and I stared as they disappeared into glitter and landed slowly on the floor. I walked back to the other side of the stage where I was before. The girl got up out of the chair and followed me back.
Next to me I saw a glowing multicolored puddle on the floor. Circled around it was a group of people all holding champaign glasses trying to scrape up the remains of what was left and drinking all they could. Afterwards the hype started again and they got up and started to dance under the spotlights. The familiar, painful sound started up again as they burst into glitter one by one.

The next part was like I had some kind of black out because all I remember next was I was smiling and laughing and was holding the Japanese lady on my back as I ran around the room. It was at this time I felt truly in love and extremely happy with her. the memories of those people dying just didn't seem to register to me at that time, like I didn't care.  I never wanted thigns to change between us, As we were messing about and holding each other in the floor a couple ran past us, a middle aged English man and a young Asian woman both dressed in business suits. We for some reason ignored them both as we were too excited and happy to care about whats happening in the rest of the world.
We got back to the small stage room with the glowing puddle to find the Englishman knelt down by it holding a half full champaign glass with the strange liquid dripping off of it and his hand. I viciously asked if he had drank any, like my memories of the deaths had somehow come back and I was trying to prevent it like some kind of hero. He scaredly replied with and insistent no. In my mind, I knew he was lying. The scared look in his eyes like he just realized he did something wrong but was too afraid to admit to it. I didn't bother with him anymore as his wife came in looking worried and held onto his arm asking if he had drank any.
My girlfriend looked worried as we held each other.
The man worriedly said things were fine and that we had to get out of here. He got up and looked at the spotlights. That same scared look appeared in his eyes once again. At that moment I knew that that man wouldn't be leaving with us. As much as I didn't want it to happen I couldn't have done anything to prevent it. It was inevitable.

The man walked slowly towards the stage. He looked worried but tried so hard to hide it. He looked at this wife, at us, then back to his wife. She gave him a look of pure fear. On the stage he put one foot on and tried to edge his way around avoiding the lights. Across the stage was the only way out. From his eyes I could see he was on the edge of despair  ready to just give up and run. Eventually he made it across to the other side seemingly unharmed. As he walked towards the back door a sigh of relief was heard and a smile cracked on his face. The girl and the lady both looked shocked and happy that he had made it across. My emotions didn't change at all as I closed my eyes and the saddening, deadly note was played. As the the man was half way through the back door, he disappeared. The woman in red held me tighter, scared. But the business woman just stared at the door horrified.

Exiting a Past Friendship

"This is a dream I had about one of those girls. My most recent one was actually this morning which I guess is what is making me so miserable today. Anyway, as soon as I had the dream I wrote it down, as I usually do with my dreams, and I figured I would let you see it for some reason. I guess I just want others to know my thoughts and try to understand me a little. Ironically, I'm not friends with the people I knew from college now."
                                                                   - Dieter

Exiting a Past Friendship.

I was walking with some people I knew. Just two people from college. It was a guy who I guess I was OK friends with, we helped each other out with projects and such but never hung out after college or spoke outside. Also there was his girlfriend who I had spoke to once or twice but I wouldn't say she was a friend. More an aquaintence.
So the three of us were just walking out of some building with a large open door in front of us, the sun shining through but on a murky day. There was a few other people who were walling in and out of the door but I didn't recognize any of them. But suddenly I did notice one girl who I knew instantly. The girl who had plagued my life as well as my dreams for years and years to come I fear. The name I will never forget in my life.
She walked towards me and I made eye contact. Something about me knew that she would try talk to me. She had a slight smile on. Nothing smarmy, more of glad.
In my mind I tried to figure out what I would do. Would I talk to her and try make things much better? Or would I ignore her? The seconds were counting down very fast I couldn't think clearly and I was getting frustrated in my mind until it came. The moment of my decision was now.
As she walked past me I felt her hand grab hold of my arm softly. I felt my eyes open wide in confusion and shock. In a moment of panic or sudden realization I just quickly flicked my arm up knocking her away. I didn't look back at her and just kept walking. Did I do that because it's all over? Does this mean that I'm really over her? If so, why was I dreaming about her out of the blue when I hadn't thought about her in so long.
As I woke up and thought about it, I felt miserable. Just like every time I dream about her.

Dream.

"When people usually think of dream they think about what they want, who they want to be with or just some nice fairy tale in their head. When they wake up from them they usually feel good.
Not me. I despise my dreams as much as the people I dream of in reality.
The truth is my dreams to me feel more like nightmares. I am always interested in why people dream, what they dream of etc. It's just a fascinating subject to learn about. Sadly, I couldn't do psychology in high school.
Anyway, the dreams I usually have are people I know, well, used to know. They are mainly of these three girls that at one point meant so much to me.Call it love or whatever you will but that't just it. Even though my feeling of love has drastically reduced into a near enough non existent thought in the far, far back corners of my mind, I guess that is the only thing you could have called it.

Though reality has taken vicious and cruel turns at making my life miserable in the social aspect as I feel now that I can rarely talk to people face to face, even on the computer is hard for me still, I find that life still throws at me the torture I call memories. Everyone will have memories of something they don't want to talk about it and it hurts them a lot to have that memory in their mind. I can live with the fact that my life has taken some turns that I never wanted it to but obviously it can't be helped. What really is torturous though is the fact that these memories have been in my mind for so long that they turn into my dreams.

Sometimes I feel as if I'm in a movie. I keep having horrible recurring dreams of these same girls. I guess to you it maybe sounds like I'm just whining about being rejected, but it's so much more than that. I don't really want to get into it but for some reason I feel as though I want to share this side of me to people. Maybe I can get some relateable people to understand how I am feeling.

When somebody does something nasty to you, deep down the main thing you want from them is an apology, some feeling of guilt. Guilt you can accept and try to move past or guilt that you can bask in. Mine is a sort of mix of the two. I would love for at least one of them to feel the slightest hint of remorse or sorrow for destroying a part of me. And that's exactly what my dream shows. In most of them, a girl does apologize. A deep heartfelt apology in a place only I know that will never exist in reality.
The harshest thing I have ever dreamed.
A fake apology."

My Psychology of Love and Hate

"While this isn't exactly a writing piece I chose to do, it was an assignment from my councilor, I kinda feel as if I put a lot more effort in than some of my other writing. Maybe because it is from my personal life I have more of a connection to it. Anyhow, I thought I would post it up to see what your take on it is.
The assignment was so identify the colors and shapes I find in love and hate and fear.
Here is what is in my mind."
                                          -Dieter

My Psychology of Love and Hate

Colors
I find that hate and love share both the same principal, basis and meaning. It is a strong feeling towards something which has heavily impacted your life in which both can be positive or negative. We need time to hate and time to love which balances out our personality and feelings.

At this point I would say that love and hate are both the color white. Each one starts off as nothing and ends nothing. Both of these emotions can take on many forms in many different ways and to me it seems impossible and implausible to try to define a certain color to them if they are constantly changing. In my personal experience I have gone through many forms of love and hate, each one daunting, painful and frightening. In my mind the memories are always there to remind me of what I wanted, what I had and what I lost. It started as white, went through many changes and inevitably, ended being what it was at the beginning, nothing.

The color of fear however I feel is different. While not exactly being the opposite, I find this color to be black. The biggest fear I feel that people have is the fear of the unknown. Unknown is usually thought of as being black in situation such as being scared of the dark, the idea of not knowing what is all around you which could do you harm, the fear of the end of life, people typically and justifiably think of death as being either a dark time or that when you die everything just becomes black whether they believe in the afterlife or not, or fear in the sense that you do not know what will happen in everyday life, such as losing your job, losing a loved one etc.

Shapes
Even though I feel the colors of these emotions are the same, the shapes are a completely different matter. In my opinion I feel the shapes represent more of the actions than the emotions.

Hate - To me hate has doesn't have a shape. The only way I could describe it would be a water, liquid type substance. Hate fuels emotions and can cause people to behave in erratic and irrational ways without thinking for either yourself or others. Hate can have many different meanings to people. With new information and situations, hate changes a person drastically and can force them to change their lives forever. Therefore, hate is the shape of water in the way that it can slip through your fingers and go wherever it want's if not contained properly.

Love - In an opposite way that hate has no shape, love, to me, is a very strong and bordered shape. I guess that it would be a square with very thick edges. Love, as well as hate, can make you act in irrational and out of character ways. But the difference between them is that with love you are doing it for a sole purpose, most notable to protect somebody. When you 'fall in love', a concept that I find diminishing and untrustworthy, you begins to find your life building around. For example, a square has four sides, four walls in which you build up a protective barrier. Your mind is now focused on making sure whatever is inside that barrier, whether it be a person, an object, a secret etc, stays safe and making sure it doesn't come to harm. Only when it begins to feel harm from the outside the sides expand and become jaggy, spiking out as to ward away and people who you believe mean harm. In this way, the person becomes more aggressive and unresponsive to common sense and advice from those who care about them. If the people feels harm from the inside, example, a person was cheating on them, the shape would them gradually or drastically lose it's form and mold into the hate substance. In this way I find that love is more dangerous than hate.
It's sad that through many centuries love has been defined as the ultimate goodness in life. But in reality, all it is is just a weapon to fuel hatred if not used correctly.

As much as I tried, and it took me a long time, I just couldn't figure out what my color was for fear. I even went through a color chart trying to find one that I feel relates most but nothing came up. In the end I realized that I didn't have one color for fear. They were all fear. Every single color in that chart was the color of fear. We are all scared of so many different things, I myself am scared of so much even something as small as just talking to a cashier at a shop. Fear has no color because fear is everything.
Everything in this world has at least one person afraid of it no matter how another finds it safe.
Ironically that's what scares me the most.

Test 1

"This is a piece I started about 9 months ago when I really got into Korean cinema. I started listening to the music in various films such as The Chaser, A Bittersweet Life and The Vengeance Trilogy. I tried to capture the mystery and emotion of  the many directors work I studied. My biggest inspiration for writing and getting into writing is South Korean director Park-Chan Wook. His art fascinates me.

Even though I wrote a few chapters of this, hoping to turn it one day into a movie, I never did come up with a title. Every chapter I wrote was just named 'Test 1', 'Test 2', etc.
Here is Test 1."

TEST 1

The young man sat in the chair in the middle of his room. The room was old, like a Victorian house, his room was surrounded in books on shelves. All different colors and sizes on varnished wooden bookshelves. The table in the middle was of course mahogany as were the  two matching chairs on opposite sides. A fire roaring at the back of the room gave the room illumination in the dark hours of the night. The curtains drawn, the bed made, everything in its place apart from the one odd young man in the chair in the middle of the room. Nothing about him made it look like he belonged there. In his mind, he also felt the same, he was so out of place. But this was his home as it had been for a while and it was the best he was going to get.

His medium length, messy, dark brown hair and slightly unshaven facial hair didn't do him any favors of blending in nor did his skinny fit black jeans and black pinstripe shirt with the sleeves rolled up. The necklace round his neck was of a cross which was the old part that blended in with the oldness of the house. Although, the man himself was an atheist, he still wore this because it reaffirmed him that there was no God. The cross served as a symbol of protection and faith. But to him, it served as a reminder that whatever happens in life cannot be solved by 'hope' in a higher power.

The man reached into his pocket and pulled out a packet of cigarettes, took one out with his mouth and tossed the packet on the table. In sequence he reached into his opposite pocket and pulled out a small red lighter and lit the cigarette. Leaning back in his chair, the man sighed and let out a great lungful of smokey air. For a few moments he could have been dead the way he sat so still thinking about nothing while his cancer stick burned away in the room. A sudden downpour outside broke his concentration and his eyes rolled in his head to view the closed curtains.

Behind him, the sudden screech of the doorknob being turned was heard and a slight breeze entered the room. The man took his eyes off the window and back to staring into space above him not caring who had come in the room. As the door swung back into place, footsteps could be heard walking over to the other side of the room. The man didn't bat an eyelid and continued to ignore whoever the person was. He heard the chair screech across the floor and the person sit down making himself comfortable.

"What is this?" The person spoke. It was clearly a middle aged man who spoke. His voice was soft but gruff.
The man continued to smoke and stare at the ceiling.
"Is this how it's going to be? Sitting around this table every night, smoking your days away while listening to the rain."
The man took another puff on his cigarette exhaling the air out of his body.
"You'll never get anywhere in life if you just carry on this way. What happened to learning Korean and Japanese. What happened to all you hoped for? All you wanted to be."
The man took the cigarette out of his mouth and rested his hand on the table.
"I... I have my whole life to do that. I can..."
"No." The stranger interrupted.
"You have A life to do it. Your life isn't going to last forever. No matter how much you think you can put stuff off and do it another day."
"But I..." The man spoke with a soft, withdrawn voice.
"No, I don't wanna hear what you can and can't do. It was a long time ago. Time to look for the new day. Isn't it time you stopped punishing yourself?"
The man held up his hand and placed the cigarette back into his mouth.
There was a moment of silence as he got back to what he was doing before the stranger entered the room.
"So, you really are just going to let it kill you. That's going to be your life from now on. Are you sure you can handle it? Knowing that there isn't going to be anyone else you can turn to. That your life will involve you waking up and going to sleep."
"There must be othe..."
"No. I am the only person you have now. Why do you think I come to visit you? Sure you have people you talk to. But they don't know the things I know, the things you tell me in strictest confidence. I know things deep within your mind without you even opening your mouth to tell me them."
"Yeah but..."
"About how..."
"Don't say...!" The man slammed his fist down on the table in a sudden rage. He glared towards the other chair and all he saw was the fire roaring behind the empty chair opposite. He breathed heavily as the rage started to subside.

The man gradually began to feel the pain shoot through his hands from slamming them on the table. The slight swelling caused the palm of his hands to go red while a small mark began to appear on the back of his left hand as the fallen cigarette began to burn its way through his skin. He flicked it off and it landed on the large red persian rug. The conversation suddenly got to him as he stared at the white stick on the floor slowly turn a small burn mark into a flame. In his mind he wondered what it would be like if he just let that fire grow bigger and bigger until it engulfs the room including himself. In his eyes there was hope. A small ray of hope that that's exactly what would happen and would happen very soon. His eyes showed no sign of stopping it whatsoever as they were fixated on that morbid daydream of death all from one small cigarette. The burn indeed in turn transformed itself from a tiny black mark on the rug to a small flame. The fire grew bigger and bigger but ever so slowly. The mans heart began to beat faster and faster. A cold sweat dripped down his face and neck as he began to shiver.

As the flame was big enough to burn the cigarette and a small diameter around it, the mans eyes began to close getting ready for what was about to happen. The smell of burning fabric was in the air as it became more smokey. The man suddenly stretched his right foot out and stamped on the cigarette and stamped down a couple more times to put out the flames surrounding it. He walked over to the window and parted the curtains. The rain still lashed down heavily outside. Opening the window to let the smell and smoke out he folded his arms and rested on the window sill looking out at the wet, night sky.
"So... Are you going to do something about it?" The familiar voice was heard from behind him.
The man said nothing as a tear began to slide down his face blending in with the rain that fell upon him.
"I'll help you. You know I will. We'll get you back on with your life. The way it was supposed to be."
The man came back inside and turned to the stranger.
"Help? You'll help me?"
The man's lip began to quiver and more tears strew down his face. He fell to his knees and grabbed his head screaming on the floor. Suddenly he felt the friendly hand of the stranger
on his shoulder comforting him as he wept.
"Yes, I want to help you."
"I...I...I will try. Back to life. Back to a normal life..."
As the tears began to desist  he got up and walked over to the table picking up his cigarettes and lighter. He sat down in the empty seat next to the fire and took one cigarette out of the packet then threw the rest in the fire. The lighter followed after he lit the last cigarette. That remaining cigarette was inhaled once before it landed in the orange glow.
